Dear ETO fans,

I would like to share my thoughts about the reason why I accepted the managerial post of the Romanian National Team with you.

As I have mentioned earlier, at the time of the Hungarian – Croatian European Championship in December 2014, the desire to become a manager of a national team got stronger. During this time, the renewal of my contract at ETO was being negotiated and finally, this desire of mine got included in my new contract, which had more reasons.

As a player, I was wishing to participate in the Olympic Games. Unfortunately, this did not work out for me that time. But in 2014 I made up my mind that if I could not take part as a player I want to do it as coach, to fulfill the dream of most if not every athlete, to participate in the Olympics. As I a player Í managed to win a Champions League, I did it twice as a coach of ETO and after this my goal was the Olympic participation what we would like to reach so much.

You, our fans, made me feel such emotions during our matches in the past seasons that I had never felt before and I believe that I will never do anymore, anywhere. Believe me, what you feel or think means a lot to me but I do trust my intuitions. These intuitions led to you here, this city, this country and that is why I trust them.

I am certain that I will have enough energy to meet the requirements of the manager of the national team besides doing my tasks at the club. I proved this when Elek Gábor and I became the temporary managers of the Hungarian National Team this spring.

I lost this opportunity when the Hungarian Handball Federation chose somebody else to take this post, but I respected and supported the decision. However, now, I got a new opportunity and believe me, I did not consider anything else than sport professional goals.

Many things have changed since I declined the request of the Romanian Federation in 2015. I can take part in the professional plan until the Olympic Games in 2020 and it met my professional requirements. I would have liked to be a part of a national team, where I would have had realistic chance to fulfill my desires, goals and ambitions. Only the Romanian Federation approached me, and I was given a long term request that I had to accept.

Believe me, I am really sorry if I hurt you due to accepting the managerial post, however, it was unintentional. Of course, I am aware of the tension between the two nations, but I see it as a new challenge and task. I have always thought that sport can unite and not separate people.

I feel really good in Győr, and I belong here and live here with my team and you. I would like to achieve the biggest success of ETO together with you in every championship.

I did not intend to hurt anyone, I just wanted to highlight the background of my decisions.

Yours sincerelly,
Ambros Martín
