"Defence will be the key" - We continue the CL in Metz

In the 5th round of the DELO EHF Champions League, Győri Audi ETO KC will continue their campaign in France. The match against Metz Handball will kick off on 23 October 2021 at 18:00 and will be broadcast live on Sport1. Laura Glauser, formerly of Metz, was interviewed in the lead-up to the match.

Győri Audi ETO KC are no strangers to the upcoming Champions League match, as the two sides have met several times in recent years. In the seven meetings so far, Metz have won six times and our team has won once.

The French side have played three matches in this season's competition so far, as the first round match between Metz and CSZKA was not played due to organisational problems. In the second round, the French team beat Odense 27 - 21 away and in the third round they beat Vipers 23 - 18 at home. On the last CL matchday in Slovenia, Emmanuel Mayonnade's side won 29 - 28 against Krim Ljubljana in a close match with a last second goal.

Compared to last season, there have been several changes in the Metz squad, six players, Broch, Stanko, Gautschi, Eckerle, Houette and Sajka have left the team, while two newcomers, Bruna de Paula from Nantes and Chloé Bouquet from ESBF Besancon, have joined the team. In the Champions League, Meline Nocandy tops the domestic scoring charts with 20 goals, Bruna de Paula is second with 12 and Debbie Bont is third with 10.

In the French championship, the team has won five of its five matches so far and leads the table with 15 points and a better goal difference.
