Győri Audi ETO KC played its first home game of the 2022/2023 season in the Champions League against the team of Kastamonu from Turkey. The first half of the match was uneven for us, but we still managed to lead by nine goals until the break. Only the extent of the victory was in question in the second half, resulting in a confident win for our side in Audi Aréna Győr (44 – 25).

Ambros Martín started the game with the squad of Schatzl, Hansen, Oftedal, Blohm, Gros, Győri-Lukács and Sandra Toft in the goal. The visitors scored the first goal, followed by a shot from Blohm. We had a two-three goal advantage, leading 9 – 7 in the 11th minute, but five minutes later, somewhat unexpectedly, the Turkish team turned the match around (11 – 12). We took control of the game again in the 20th minute (14 – 13), with Faluvégi’s goal the difference increased to two (15 – 13). The first half concluded with 23 – 14 thanks to the saves from Toft, and our improving performance in defence.

The visiting team started the second half also quite strong, in the 40th minute the scoreboard showed 27 – 19, but three minutes later Győri-Lukács scored and the difference was ten goals (29 – 19). In the final part of the match the gap widened, it was 34 – 22, ten minutes before the end. The distance between the teams grew even larger, at the final whistle ETO’s lead went up to 19 goals (44 – 25).

Ambros Martín: „We cannot say that it was an easy match. There were problems for us in both halves, but fortunately we found the solutions. We remained concentrated and could solve the problems caused by their backs and pivot.”

Veronica Kristiansen: „I feel that we fought well, the problems came from not finding the right distances in defence, but I’m happy we found the answer to Kastamonu’s game. I am pleased with the victory, we kept the two points at home in a good match.”
