Győri Audi ETO KC hosted the team of DVSC Schaeffler in Audi Aréna Győr in a game brought forward from the 22nd round of the K&H Women’s Handball League. The first 30 minutes produced a tough duel on the court, the score was tied at halftime (11 – 11). The two squads were fighting head-to-head for a long time in the second half too, but eventually Győr won by three goals.

The evening started with good news, the management of the club signed a new sponsorship agreement with PHOENIX Pharma Zrt.

Our team sported pink shirts during the warm-up, thus joining the campaign in October to raise awareness against breast cancer.

Ambros Martín could not rely on the help of Stine Oftedal and Ana Gros, however Ogonovszky Eszter was available for play after her injury. We started the game with Schatzl, Nze Minko, Hansen, Broch, Ryu, Faluvégi and Solberg in the goal. Anne Mette Hansen scored the first goal of the match followed by another from Linn Blohm (2 – 0). After ten minutes of play we were leading 5 – 2, but Debrecen equalized in the 15th minute (5 – 5). Győr took the advantage turning onto the last ten minutes (8 – 7). The end of the first half provided exciting moments, the score was 11 – 11 at the break.

Yvette Broch opened the second half with a goal, but the visitors took over the lead three minutes later. Our team could re-take the lead in the 43rd minute of the match (17 – 16), however the excitement was not over. Ten minutes before the end Debrecen was trailing by two (20 – 18) and we could create and keep an advantage of several goals until the final whistle (25 – 22).

Ambros Martín: „Today we played against a tough opponent, however our preparation was not complete, we struggled a lot during the match. Despite this, I’m satisfied with the team since our defence worked very well. I am proud of the girls, because of how they fought, a few weeks ago I was not. I liked what I saw, they showed a fighting spirit today. As a coach, this means a lot to me.”

Silje Solberg: „It’s always nice to play games at such intensity. Debrecen made it tough for us this evening. It was not easy to prepare after the national team period, but this is also true for Debrecen. We fought hard and showed high-level defensive work, which made my job easier too.”
